Exfolaiting 101: Reveal your radiant glow!

Exfolaiting 101: Reveal your radiant glow!

Exfoliating is an important part of any skincare routine, but one that can often be overlooked. Let’s find out why this step is so beneficial for your skin.

What are the benefits of exfoliating?

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin which also helps to unclog pores and prevent breakouts. It gives your skin a circulation boost and aids in lymphatic flow and drainage. It can also help with product absorption, as dead skin cells on the surface of the skin can prevent serums and moisturisers from penetrating the skin optimally.

What should I look for in an exfoliator?

Look for one that is gentle and non-abrasive, so it won’t be too harsh on your skin. For the face, choose an exfoliator that has fine granules that will gently work on your skin without stripping it of its natural oils.

How often should I exfoliate?

That depends on your skin type. If you exfoliate too much, you risk damaging the skin barrier. If using our  Exfoliating Face Mask, as a general guideline, we would recommend the following:

  • Sensitive skin: Once a week
  • Dry skin: 1 - 2 times a week
  • Normal skin: Twice a week
  • Oily skin: 2- 3 times a week

Skincare routine for healthy, glowing skin

Step 1: Preparation

Cleanse - Use first to remove any makeup, daily oils and dirt from the skin to prepare it for exfoliation.

Step 2: Application

Exfoliate - Gently apply the ishga Exfoliating Face Mask with patting motions (try not to rub the product onto the skin) and leave for 8-10 minutes. You can mix this with your cleanser or water to turn it into a paste and use circular motions to exfoliate for the last few minutes.

Step 3: Rinse

Thoroughly rinse products off with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry.

Step 4: Nourish & protect

Follow with a spritz of ishga  Hebridean Marine Toner, an application of  Regenerating Face Serum and your choice of  Marine Cream to protect skin and lock in moisture.

Body vs face exfoliation

The skin on the face is thinner than the skin on your body and as your face is exposed to more sunlight and environmental pollution, we would recommend using exfoliators that are specific to your face and body to keep the skin barrier protected. For body exfoliation, we would recommend the  Hebridean Sea Salt Scrub, followed by an application of an  ishga Body Oil or  Invigorating Body Lotion.
