Our new Hydra+ Marine Cream - what are the benefits?

We are very excited to be sharing our newest product launch with you, and on our 10th anniversary no less! Our Hydra+ Marine Cream has been  developed from ten years of expertise in seaweed, science and skincare. This is our most advanced formula yet, incorporating multiple molecular weights of hyaluronic acid (read on to learn the importance of this) with our unique seaweed extract and a host of natural active ingredients to transform all skin types.

Key ingredients & benefits

As with our existing Marine Creams, our Hydra+ Marine Cream has been developed to have its own its own unique benefits based on the combination of ingredients and essential oils.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid allows nutrients to reach deeper levels of the skin. It can bind up to 1000x times its own weight in water which boosts and maintains skin hydration levels. It can also accelerate tissue repair and cell regeneration. Environmental pollution can decrease the levels of natural hyaluronic acid in your skin, causing fine lines, reduced elasticity, wrinkles and dark spots. By including hyaluronic acid in your skincare routine, this can replenish the levels resulting in improved skin texture and appearance.

We use two molecular weights of hyaluronic acid.  Low molecular weights penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin, delivering regenerative qualities, while the higher molecular weights form a hydration barrier on the surface of the skin delivering instant visible results and locking in moisture.

Fucus serratus seaweed extract

Of course, our unique Hebridean seaweed extract also plays a very important role in the benefits of our new marine cream. It’s extracted directly into Hebridean spring water using a low temperature extraction process, which protects the beneficial compounds and enzymes.

Studies have shown the ability of fucus serratus to bind to and limit the function of an enzyme called ‘hyaluronidase’ which is responsible for the breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the skin. Fucus serratus extract blocks the activity of this enzyme to slow down ageing of the skin. Fucus serratus extract has also demonstrated the ability to block collagenase activity, which is the enzyme responsible for the breakdown of collagen in the skin.

Prickly pear oil

Pricky pear oil has high levels of fatty acids, omega-6 and 9, Vitamin E, amino acids and Vitamin K. These help to promote collagen production and cell turnover while vitamin K is known for brightening and improving overall skin appearance. It contains high levels of linoleic acid which can penetrate deep into the skin layers delivering a boost of hydration and stimulating cell renewal.

Lus nan laogh (Bogbean)

Currently used in our Hydrating Hand Cream, this ingredient has been used by generations of Hebrideans to treat a range of skin conditions including acne and rosacea. It is also known for its anti-microbial and antioxidant effects. Roots of this flower are used with spring water from a local healing well to create an extract known to be highly effective in treating inflammation of the skin. In Scotland, the plant can be found growing in peaty lochs and we are only able to hand harvest it once a year, when it’s flowering.

Shea butter

This ingredient comes from the shea trees that grow in Africa. The fruit that grows on the trees resembles plums and the ‘butter’ comes from the kernels inside the fruit. Shea butter has a high concentration of vitamin E, omega fatty acids and linoleic acids, all of which work together in harmony as they moisturise your skin. It also has a lightweight texture so absorbs quickly, making it ideal for use on all skin types.

Packaging

As we were developing our Hydra+ Marine Creamwe wanted it to stand out and look beautiful in your bathroom or dressing table! Created with sustainability in mind, it is presented in luxurious packaging that nods to the 10 year anniversary of ishga, featuring the Pantone Colour of the Year 2023, ‘Viva Magenta’. This shade from the red family is rooted in nature and expressive of a new signal of strength. Reflect this strength in your skin, with ishga’s new advanced organic moisturiser, derived from the ocean, backed by science.
