Why ishga Does Not Use Synthetic Fragrances

When it comes to natural, organic skincare, what you leave out is just as important as what you put in. At ishga, we believe in the healing power of nature and creating results-driven skincare that will supports healthy, radiant skin. You’ll never find synthetic fragrances in our products, here's why.

What are synthetic fragrances?

Synthetic fragrances are laboratory-created scent compounds often used in skincare to provide a consistent, long-lasting aroma. While they may have a pleasant scent, they are typically made from petrochemicals and can contain dozens, sometimes hundreds, of undisclosed ingredients under the single term “fragrance” or “parfum”.

Can synthetic fragrances cause skin reactions?

For some people, yes. Synthetic fragrances are one of the most common causes of skin irritation and allergic reactions in cosmetic products. They can be particularly problematic for:

• Sensitive skin

• Reactive or compromised skin barriers

• Those prone to redness or dermatitis

Even if irritation isn’t immediate, repeated exposure can sometimes contribute to long-term sensitivity. Our goal is to nourish, hydrate and care for all skin types, introducing unnecessary irritants does not align with ishga and how we manufacture our products.

Why organic certification matters

ishga is proudly certified Organic by the Soil Association, meaning every stage of our formulation and manufacturing process is independently audited.

Natural scents from essential oils

Instead of artificial fragrances, we use plant-based essential oils to create the natural, spa-like scent you recognise in ishga products.

These essential oils are chosen not only for their beautiful aroma, but for their skin benefits and their ability to enhance the self-care ritual. Here are some of the essential oils we use most often in our formulations:

• Lavender - Calming and soothing for the skin. Helps support balance, especially for stressed, sensitive or reactive skin, and adds a gentle, relaxing aroma. Used in our Shampoo & Body Bar, Invigorating Body Oil, Invigorating Body Lotion and Little ishga Marine Cream.
• Rose Geranium - Known for helping to balance the skin. Often used to support a healthy-looking glow and improve the appearance of uneven skin tone. Used in our Nourishing Face Oil, Marine Cleansing Balm, Muscle Recovery Oil, and Body & Hand Wash.
• Frankincense - Helps support the look of firmer, smoother skin and is often used in products designed for mature or dehydrated skin. Used in our Hydra+ Marine Cream.
• Bergamot - Nourishes the skin and helps to control sebum levels for balance in natural oil production. Used in our Active Cleansing Lotion, Anti-oxidant Marine Cream, Balancing Marine Cream and Warming Body Oil.
