At ishga we’re very lucky to live on a beautiful island with some of the most beautiful, unspoiled beaches in the world. On a hot summer’s day, it’s simply paradise. There’s no doubt about it, we look forward to long, summer days when we can peel off layers, and enjoy the sunshine.
One day, perhaps you’ll visit our turquoise waters and clean, golden sands, but in the meantime we’ll try to bottle some of that goodness and send it to you in our all natural organic skincare range. Here are our tips to keep your skin protected and radiant this summer, with more than a little help from The Hebrides.
Keep your skin exfoliated and hydrated
Drink lots of water to replace fluids lost in hot weather, and keep your skin soft, supple and radiant. We recommend using a hydrating mask a couple of times a week too. ishga’s Exfoliating Face Mask hydrates beautifully, whilst also removing dead skin cells which can clog pores. It helps with dry skin problems that may be exacerbated by seasonal allergies, or with acne made worse by excess oil and sweat. In true ishga style, it gently soothes tired senses with the soft scent of rose geranium.
Use a light, nourishing facewash
During the warmer summer months, consider a light, but nourishing facewash, to draw out excess oil from the skin, but leave it feeling soft and smooth. Our Active Seaweed Cleansing Lotion is the perfect, easy cleanser for summer time. It’s jam-packed with natural antioxidants that will combat sun damage, and contains ultra-light moisturisers to hydrate without blocking pores. With bergamot oil and citrus peel, it’s a scented treat too.
Use a refreshing toner
A good toner will help you close up open pores on hot summer days. ishga’s Hebridean Marine Face Toneris jam-packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals straight from the ocean. Natural spring water, red mandarin oil, aloe vera and cucumber brightens skin and will leave you feeling lovely and cool. You can wipe this cooling tonic on with cotton pads or carry it in your bag to spritz on your face during the day - what’s not to love?
Antioxidants protect your skin from sun damage, and boost your skin’s natural collagen production. All ishga’s products are loaded with antioxidants from our Hebridean seaweed extract, but you can add them to your diet too, in the form or citrus fruits, plenty of green, leafy vegetables, green tea, nuts or whole grains – or why not try our seaweed capsules for an extra boost?
Take care of the skin around your eyes
The skin around your eyes is the most delicate on your face, so it’s important to give it extra protection and lots of love when it’s exposed to the hot sun. ishga’s Rejuvenating Organic Eye Balmis choc-full of amazing antioxidants, and it’s based in shea butter and enriched with Vitamins A, E and F. Our brilliant eye cream contains Cinammic Acid, which acts as a natural sunscreen too.
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen…
Of course, this is an absolute MUST in hot, sunny weather. Protect your precious skin as much as you can – after all it’s got to last you a lifetime. Protect yourself from sun damage with a good sunscreen of between 30-50 SPF, which covers both UVA and UVB rays. Remember, you’ll need to reapply it every few hours if you’re outside for long periods, and don’t forget areas like ears, lips, hands and feet!
Go natural and cut down on your make up
Cut down on heavy make up in the summer time, at least throughout the day. Your skin needs to be able to breathe in humidity and heat. Consider a good tinted moisturizer or sunscreen, and consider wearing a lip balm for light, sun-kissed look. ishga’s Replenishing Organic Lip Balmcontains our natural SPF to protect your lips, and shea butter, beeswax, bergamot and lemongrass oil will keep them silky soft.
The value of nature, and natural remedies
After a long day in the heat, why not relax in a cool bath with our ishga Sea Salt Scrub, or try our naturally luxurious Invigorating Body Lotion? Our ishga Hand Poured Seaweed Candlesand our beautiful ishga Organic Body Spray are a gorgeous summer treat too. If you’ve been toiling in the heat, a little natural goodness will offer some much-needed, peaceful relaxation.
Whatever you do, enjoy the sunshine, and make sure you look after yourself, mind, body and spirit.
