What is Skin Twinning?
Skin twinning refers to using skincare ingredients that "twin" or align with the skin’s own components. Think of it as giving your skin what it naturally recognises and responds to - antioxidants your body already uses, and natural hydrating agents like hyaluronic acid that exist within your skin’s structure.

Seaweed and collagen: A skin-renewing duo
What makes seaweed especially exciting in the context of skin twinning is its ability to stimulate natural collagen production. Collagen is the protein that gives our skin structure, firmness, and elasticity. As we age, our natural collagen production slows, leading to fine lines and reduced elasticity of the skin.
After around the age of 25, collagen production reduces about 1-2% per year and is broken down quicker by an enzyme called collagenase. Hebridean seaweed has been found to contain bioactive compounds which block this enzyme, resulting in higher levels of collagen and smoother, more radiant skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the skin which assists in hydration, maintenance, and cell regeneration. It can bind up to 1000x times its own weight in water, making it extremely moisturising, and an essential component in keeping joints lubricated and skin hydrated. Hyaluronic acid plays an important role in the epidermal (skin’s top layer) barrier function, helping to limit water loss, reduce damaging chemical absorption and preventing infection. Seaweed extracts are known to stimulate the production of hyaluronic acid and inhibit the enzyme responsible for the breakdown of it, called hyaluronidase.
